5 W UV Laser Coder

The all-round UV coder for pharma, cosmetics and electronics.

5 W UV Laser Coder
How it works

Built around your product

A balanced choice of speed and fine detail. The UV-5 writes dense DataMatrix codes on cartons and labels, marks medical tubing and syringes, and codes chip packages and connectors without thermal stress.

An infrared beam is frequency-tripled inside the laser cavity to produce ultraviolet light, then delivered through a galvo scan head. The small spot size gives very fine characters and dense 2D codes. Because the heat-affected zone is minimal, UV is the usual choice for white HDPE, flexible film, medical tubing, cable jackets, glass and chip packages.

Key features

  • Fine 15 µm line width for micro-codes
  • Serialisation-ready with data buffer
  • Marks glass without micro-cracking
  • Optional coaxial vision alignment
Laser sourceDPSS UV, frequency-tripled
Average power5 W
Wavelength355 nm
Marking field110 × 110 mm (optional 175 × 175 mm)
Machine cycle

Process sequence

Position

Product is presented on the conveyor, in a tray or on a fixture.

Focus

A fixed or motorised Z-axis sets the focal distance for the part height.

Mark

The 355 nm beam changes the surface colour without cutting into it.

Extract

Light fume extraction keeps the lens and product clean.

Inspect

An optional vision system grades the code before the part moves on.

Suitable materials and packs

Questions

Why choose UV over fiber for plastics?
UV marks many plastics without additives and without melting the surface. Fiber often needs laser-sensitive additives to mark light-coloured polyolefins with good contrast.
Can UV lasers mark flexible packaging film?
Yes. UV changes the colour of suitable ink or film layers without perforating the web, which protects the barrier properties of the pack.
How much power do I need?
3–5 W covers most static and moderate-speed coding. 10–15 W is used for high-speed film and extrusion lines or for larger marks.
