Continuous Inkjet (CIJ) Printers
Non-contact small-character coding on almost any surface, flat or curved, at high line speeds.
Also called CIJ coders, small-character inkjet printers and batch coding machines.

What these machines do
Continuous inkjet is the workhorse of date and batch coding. It prints from a distance onto curved, recessed, wet or moving surfaces and offers the widest choice of inks — fast-dry, food-grade, pigmented, heat-resistant and more.
Ink is pumped under pressure through a nozzle and broken into a steady stream of droplets by a piezo crystal. Selected drops receive an electrical charge and are deflected by a high-voltage plate onto the product to form characters; uncharged drops return to the gutter and are recycled. Solvent make-up keeps viscosity constant across temperature changes.
Typical options
- Positive-air printhead kit for dusty lines
- Right-angle or extended umbilical
- Beacon and product-reject outputs
- Stainless stand with traversing arm

Process sequence
Start
Automatic nozzle flush and jet alignment bring the printer to ready.
Sense
A product sensor triggers the print; the encoder matches character width to speed.
Charged drops fly 5–15 mm to the surface and dry in about a second.
Recycle
Unused ink returns through the gutter to the mixing tank.
Shut down
The printhead cleans and seals itself for a clean next start.
